Atlanta Business Chronicle – Georgia Pecan Commission Eyes U.S. Department of Agriculture Marketing Order

The Peach State wants money to boost its image as The Pecan State. The American pecan industry could have its own U.S. Department of Agriculture marketing order as soon as 2016 and the Georgia Pecan Commission supports it. The marketing order would authorize the promotion, data collection and research activities of pecans in 15 states, including Georgia, which is the largest producer of pecans in the United States. Georgia averages 88 million pounds of pecans annually, which is worth an average of $80 million to $100 million to the state’s economy.
