Due to the losses experienced by Georgia pecan farmers during Hurricane Helene, pecan prices are expected to surge during the holiday season.
“Helene’s devastation shouldn’t have much impact on consumer prices because crops grown elsewhere can make up for most shortages, said Michael Adjemian, a University of Georgia professor of agricultural economics. Pecans are one possible exception. Georgia is responsible for roughly one-third of U.S. production.”

The repercussions of Hurricane Helene extend beyond immediate crop loss, marking a significant setback for the industry due to the devastation of productive trees across approximately 48,000 acres. Despite a forecasted drop in per capita consumption by nearly 24%, the USDA underscores an ongoing disparity between pecan production and demand.”
